By Paul Oranika | Published 03/1/2009 | U.S. Affairs | Rating:
President Barrack Hussein Obama was first introduced to the world when he was selected to deliver the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Boston MA, perhaps no one could write the Obama story better than Obama himself. It is therefore in order to begin this essay by quoting Obama’s own words from the keynote speech he delivered in Boston in 2004 entitled “The Audacity of Hope”, Obama said, “Tonight is a particular honor for me because, let’s face it, my presence on this stage is pretty unlikely.

By Chido Onumah | Published 12/5/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated
Some commentators have called the victory of Barack Obama a bloodless revolution. Whether we agree with this position or not, there is no denying the fact that it was a welcome reprieve for a nation founded on genocide and built on the unmitigated labour of slaves; one which for many years denied women the right to vote and has over the years sidelined its minority populations politically and economically.

It has indeed been a great run for Barack Obama and all of us. I had my doubts, but believe me, after what I saw last night; I am a believer in this American Dream; not only for me, but for other young minority children growing up in this system. There is hope. I must draw your attention to John McCain's concession speech last night. I think that was classy.

» THE NIGERIA OBAMA CONNECTION AND THE "ABSURDITY OF HOPELESSNESS"
By Emmanuel Ogebe | Published 11/1/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Rating:
It is truly tragic when a country's citizenry is more energized by Senator Barack Obama's performance in the US presidential elections in the past 8 months than President Yar'adua's performance in the Nigerian presidency in the past 18 months. More Nigerians stayed up late at night to watch the US presidential debate than watched Nigeria's debate which the latter did not participate in.
» THE END OF REAGANOMIC FANTASY; RETURN TO ECONOMIC REALITY
By Ozodi Thomas Osuji Ph.D | Published 10/29/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated
This essay looks at the competing approaches to the economy, their merits and demerits and concludes that at the end of the day the mixed economy is still the only realistic option available to the human polity. Those tempted to go to one of the extreme ends of the economic continuum (socialism or capitalism) generally end up paying unacceptably high prices. Reason always suggests following the middle way, not either or but a combination of both.

In a few weeks from now, the US election will roll out in full swing and unlike the common experience in Africa; the results will be made available in no time for the entire world to see. Anyway, I have no doubt in my mind that someday we in this part of the world will get there too – where election will be held and result release immediately without any form of hanky panky.

In the summation of multi-millionaire Warren Buffet, during an interview on the Fox Business Channel, the fate of the America financial system lies virtually in the hands of the US Congress. He further expatiated that the only thing that counts in the economic world today is the US Congress, they hold the fate of the US economy in the next few years in their hands. As such, how they handle the present America economic statusquo will on the long run determine to a large extent what the fate of the people world over will be.
» OBAMA A HEARTBEAT AWAY FROM WHITE HOUSE
By George Onuorah | Published 08/5/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated

After some very careful analysis of the state of the American polity and the trail-blazing phenomena of Obama-mania , the history of past presidential election prior to1976, and also extrapolating from the various punditry by political ‘old hands’, one can make informed decisions about the November presidential election with less presumption and more certainty.

By George Onuorah | Published 03/18/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated

Contrary to the phenomenon of Obama-mania, and the euphoria that greeted his political emergence, resurgence and ascendance of the Illinois senator, many in America seem now to have suddenly woken up to the near certainty or inevitability that a black man Sen. Barack Obama can actually become next president. That thought it appears, may be making some people somewhat uncomfortable.

» IS MCCAIN THE MAN?
By George Onuorah | Published 03/12/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated
John McCain’s political surge merit’s some scrutiny with his clinching of the Republican nomination. This ‘Renaissance Man’ surprising victory seem largely a function of his re-incarnation in New Hampshire where a largely Independent-minded electorate succumbed to a lop-sided media hype that favored his candidacy and stifled a surging Obama, whom opinion polls favored to coast to a New Hampshire victory following his surprising win in Iowa caucuses.

When the White House telephone rings at 3:00a.m., that the country is in crisis, who picks up that phone with a solution. In response, when the telephone rang at 3:00am, the question is not who picks up the phone to make a right decision at the first instance. Obama response to Clinton is that making a wrong decision with experience is not good enough than making a right decision at the first instance.
» CAN OBAMA STAND “KITCHEN SINK” POLITICS
By George Onuorah | Published 03/8/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated
All things being equal, “kitchen Sink” strategy in politics by conventional standards means a candidate has to employ and deploy all weapons essential for victory. The heavyweight boxing match between Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton can today be considered to be in its ninth round. It has always been how dare this upstart and the black community to challenge the hand that fed them, especially for those who had always regarded Clinton's husband as the black president that blacks never had. The fight wasn't supposed to have gone this far.
» DEM PARTY UNITY IS PARAMOUNT
By George Onuorah | Published 03/5/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Unrated
One thing that must be clear is that for Democrats to become victorious come November, the need for total unity must and should be paramount. Many no doubt have heard the expression, United We Stand, Divided We Fall. To me it’s more like United We Win, Divided We Lose. Now, the million dollar question becomes, what are those things that Democrats should do and must do to win 2008 presidential election? As far as I am concerned, they are not far-fetched.
» OBAMA-MANIA AND FIERCE URGENCY OF VICTORY

As we relish this political phenomenon of Obama-mania, Democrats of all shades and stripes have no choice than coalesce into a united front to achieve what could be termed a certain victory in November. The ‘fierce urgency of now’ the reason Barack Obama is running for presidency of the United States of America can never have become more urgent. Therefore, as Democrats, we must not relax, relent or rest on our laurels, for the journey of our one thousand miles has just began.

By Chris Odetunde Ph.D | Published 03/5/2008 | U.S. Affairs | Rating:

For far too long, the Republican perfected campaign strategy of dehumanizing opponents through hidden unusable treasures or through language manipulation. In recent recallable American political history, Governor Dukakis (remember Willy Horton ad), and Senor John Kerry (Swift boat attack) proved to be fatal blows on these highly qualified candidates who were not ready for prime time. Both Dukakis and Kerry either did not respond or wasted time responding to attacks. Such hesitation or lack thereof cost them the presidency of America.

So far Barack Obama  has shown that he is good at sppech making. Folks are, however, asking:  where is the beef. We are not yet sure that he understands the specifics of the US and other economies, crucial knowledge that a leader of the free world must have. If he is lacking in that knowledge he ought to study up on it.
