» Online Propaganda and Social Media
By Yushau Shuaib | Published 02/17/2010 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated
For the fear that the social media seems to be going out of control, some actions are being taken in some societies to deny access to selected websites. Some countries like China have blocked access to some websites; these include the popular YouTube, Twitter and Facebook to control so-called cultural imperialism.
» PERSPECTIVE: TOYOTA GLOBAL RECALL AND CRISIS CONTROL
By Segun Imohiosen | Published 02/9/2010 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Some paradigms on which the practice of Public Relations thrive such as objectivity and transparency were brought to the fore the more in recent time through the apology of the Chief Executive Officer of the Toyota Motor Corporation for a positive crisis control. Akio Toyoda has successfully intoned the PR paradigm on openness and transparency. These qualities exhibited in the leadership of the corporation in making a public declaration to the entire world for error discovered in the manufacturing of the Toyota Hybrid are the bedrock for which the practice thrives.

On the long run, it is not you and me who bought Simon Cowell et al‘s record that will be recognised. Simon Cowell will be made into a hero without actually contributing a single penny of his multi-millions. And you can like him because of his TV’s X-Factor show, I don’t really care. He exploits, and everybody knows it.
» The Trouble with Nigeria
By Chido Onumah | Published 09/30/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

“The trouble with Nigeria has become the subject of our small talk in much the same way as the weather is for the English. There is a great danger in consigning a life-and-death issue to the daily routine of small talk. No one can do much about the weather: we must accept and live with or under it. But national bad habits are a different matter; we resign ourselves to them at our own peril.”

» Let the Critic Swear
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 02/11/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Except perhaps Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, there's no other Nigerian critic whose SELF is not being boosted by the president's recognition. For one example, what parcel was the late Dele Giwa expecting from "President" Babangida which turned out to be a bomb that eventually killed the master critic?

» Open Letter to Nigerians
By Obi Igbokwe | Published 02/8/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated
Nigeria has long been held back from achieveing its potential due to many years of mismanagement by its leaders. This has left many of them disillusioned and wondering when the promise that many have long held for the country will ever be fulfilled. This letter is a rallying call to all those who still hold that hope, do not give up.
» The Wandering Preacher
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 02/4/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Even though he doesn't know what preaching the gospel mean, he relies on Machiavellian survival-ism he had learned in a correctional institution while on trial.  He banks on the fact that the people, including the so-called intellectual are stupidly religious and annoyingly forgetful. With Koran and the bible on both hands, a once condemned man set foot on a city to speak, plead and argue passionately in favour of forgiveness and reconciliation.

» Who is to Police SaharaReporters?
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 01/14/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Despite its defect approach as reasoned by a group of commentators, I'd rather escape Nigerian rulers' meretricious captivation for the glorious melancholy in SaharaReporters' invasive reporting, especially in a nation where the oppressed have been programmed to glorify their oppressors. SaharaReporters is one of the unmerciful voices garnered to fight the tempest of insincerity that pervades Nigeria’s polity and deeds.

» NIGERIA’S POST-CIVIL WAR RECONCILIATION: GO ON, BE PROUD

Thursday January 15, 2009 marks the 39th anniversary of the end of the Nigerian civil war. *On that day in Dodan Barracks, a brutal 920-day civil war ended as former colleagues and combatants who had engaged each other in bitter warfare for over two and a half years embraced each other with unprecedented speech and warmth.

» Excessive Population Growth- a Bane of Nigeria's Economic Development
By Ola Kassim MD | Published 01/10/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Even though Nigeria ranks 41st on the GDP scale, our nation ranks closer to the bottom of the pile in per capita GDP amongst the world's nations. This disparity is partly due to the huge population crowded within the geographical boundaries of Nigeria. Most of the other oil producing nations (e.g. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Ir an and Kuwait) have much smaller populations relative to Nigeria making their per capita GDP much higher than ours

» They Call Me a Prophet of Doom
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 01/1/2009 | Comments and Analysis | Rating:

I have been fasting and praying for the last 48 days and nights. The point of my prayer is about this woman I honey and care for. I am not in love with her, for I don't know what the term really means. But I know I have a strong positive emotion of regard and affection for her

» Nostalgic for a Firing Squad
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 12/20/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Elder Saidu Dogo, Secretary of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), recently advocated death sentence for corrupt leaders. The man of God opined that such drastic action is the only way to checkmate corruption in the country. He said further that the family member of such leaders found to have benefited from the act should get 15-year-jail term and property confiscated. Good talk but Dogo forgot to include fake and corrupt men of God. Ah...ah...ah

» For Ribadu; For Nigeria
By Chido Onumah | Published 12/17/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

Under Ribadu, there were prosecutions, convictions, and recovery of stolen wealth; he ran an efficient and effective organisation, one that had focus, even if occasionally abrasive.

» Obama, Black or White: The Law says BLACK
By Obi Enweze | Published 11/13/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Rating:

30 years old Plessy, sat on a train meant for whites only and was jailed. He went through a series of appeals, and each time was told that he could not seat with whites. Mr. Plessy, then took his case to the Supreme Court, hoping for vindication of what he thought was his rifght, surprised, he met the unresponsive ears of the Supreme Court Justices. The U.S. Supreme Court, in holding that, separate but equal accommodation was fine.

» The Hunt for Nigerian Online Publishers
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 10/22/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

If Jonathan Elendu, the publisher Elendureports.com, is involved in money laundering for a South-South governor and in blackmailing a senator with an alleged demand for N20 million to keep some secrets from being published, as reported by Dipo Kehinde of the Compass - then he must face the music. If the arrest is due to his being critical of the government, then the SSS should be ready to arrest yours truly as well.

» Hungarian NGO's Scramble for Africa's Fund
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 10/9/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Rating:
Apparently, they all claim to base their goal or goals on humanitarianism or humanity, specifically focusing on Africa. One is therefore compelled to ask: why Africa? It has indeed become a fad in Hungary to found a non-profit entity with the sole aim of alleviating the sufferings of Africa and its people. With so many of such foundations springing up with alacrity, one wonders why poverty still exists in Africa and its environs

» The Influencial Thieves
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 07/23/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

The headline-grapping news is shocking and mocking. Nigerian public officials are flamboyant deceivers; they attract us with tricks and jokes while enjoying authority stealing. “What’s Always Wrong with These Our Public Officials?” These people aren’t mad but thieves. And they should be treated as such. Period!

» No Cure for Colonial Mentality
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 06/4/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

A 10-yr-old Nigerian girl says, “If I’ve the chance to go to London, I won’t come back to this stupid country”. Another 12-yr-old boy quips, “Oyinbo are better than us”. Nigerian politicians die and bury people’s money in England and environs. My sister bleaches her skin and washes away her crown with different chemicals in her bid to straighten or curl her hair – her identity. Are we all victims as well as perpetrators of colonial mentality?

» Pat Utomi and Reuben Abati in Nigeria’s Public Discourse
By Sabella Abidde | Published 05/21/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

That he roams the Nigerian political/intellectual landscape unchallenged, does not give him the license to speak condescendingly to those who disagree with his position. He may be used to reporters kowtowing to his every wish; he may be used to his domestic audiences’ silence and acceptance of his blanket assertions, but he should not expect the same of “Diaspora based internet warrior in the comfort of American suburbia.” To be a big fish in River Benue is not the same as being a small fish in the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean.

» Thomas Ozodi Osuji's Phenomenon Of Self Hate : by Lawrence Chinedu Nwobu
By ChatAfrik Contributor | Published 05/14/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

In recent times, I have taken a keen interest in Thomas Osuji’s articles, not because they are of any particular refining qualities, but because the consistent pattern of his articles have revealed the mindset of a man wallowing in an overdose of self hatred. Eccentrics and bizarre people like Thomas Osuji who probably suffer from a personality disorder would not be so uncommon, but something tells me the young man might actually need some help.

» ON ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE
By Ozodi Thomas Osuji Ph.D | Published 03/21/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated
This essay takes a look at Alzheimer's disease. While acknowledging the current medical understanding of the disease, the author speculates that the disease might also be a deliberate escape from a world thought to be meaningless and purposeless.
» Another Police Reckless Disregard for Lives
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 03/13/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

The three women left home for their daily bread with the hope to return to their loved ones as soon as possible. They were wrong. For, the police reckless disregard for human lives would shoot and fall such bubbling high spirits. This is another police noisily domineering; tending to browbeat the citizens.

» NITEL: Saving Our Collective Patrimony
By Yushau Shuaib | Published 02/25/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Unrated

It is public knowledge that some of the so-called successful private individuals apart from indulging in conspiracy and insiders’ dealings, made their wealth from excessive government’s patronage through inflated contracts, tax rebates, concessions and policies that are sometimes detrimental to government’s responsibilities to its citizens.

» The Day An African Brother Almost Cheated Us
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 02/13/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Rating:

How would you feel if an African brother tried to defraud you in a foreign land? How would you feel if he employed a deception for profit to himself? Especially when you have met him in the street a few times and did commune? Budapest is not like your London or New York or Berlin or Paris where many Africans reside. Here in Budapest, African brothers know one another – almost by name. What devilish impulse then moved our brother to do what he did?

» Before They Destroy This Nigerian
By Hakeem Babalola | Published 02/10/2008 | Comments and Analysis | Rating:

The video clip video clip  in which a Nigerian living in Hungary showered Adolf Hitler, a German leader who killed millions of people and remained a totalitarian ruler until his suicide in 1945 with praise, has generated a lot of controversy. Oludayo Olapite known as Fekete Pákó may get 3 years imprisonment if found guilty. Our brother either because of foolhardiness or ignorance or fame or greed or bullying, also saluted Szálasi Ference.
