Born in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria on March, 3 1958. He attended Abba Ganaram Primary School, Maiduguri and Yerwa Government Secondary School Maiduguri. Dr. Adam graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture (1987); Master of Science degree (1990) and Doctorate degree (1995) in Agricultural Education from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater Oklahoma. Dr. Adam also has Certificate in management from Yavapai College and has completed Covey Leadership development programs Seven Habits of Highly Effective people.
Professionally here in the United States of America, Dr. Adam has been one of the highest ranking Nigerian born or black/African-American in the US higher education system. Dr. Adam is currently a senior administrator and Director of Research and Assessment at Northcentral University, Prescott Arizona. Dr. Adam has previously served held many administrative and management positions including Director of Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment at Yavapai College, Prescott, Arizona; Santa Rosa Jr. College, Santa Rosa, California, Modesto Jr. College, Modesto, California.
Dr. Adam has held several senior leadership positions including: Dean of Institutional Research, Planning and Development and the Executive Director of the LASC Foundation at Los Angeles Southwest College, Los Angeles, California; Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Member of the Executive Team at Austin Community College Austin, Texas; Dean [Vice President level] of Institutional Effectiveness at West Virginia Northern Community College, Wheeling, West Virginia.
While at Los Angeles, Dr. Adam was the highest ranking black/African American male in the Los Angeles Community College District [LACCD] system. The district consisted of 9 colleges and has over 150,000 students; 5,000 staff and faculty and annual budget of over half a billion dollars. Also in addition the district has an on-going construction of over 2 billion dollars funded though bond.
Dr. Adam was married for over 23 years to a brilliant Yoruba woman, late Dr. Adenike Adam (1958-2005) who succumbed to ovarian cancer, September last year. They are parents of two children: Ahmed, who is graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at the age of 21 in June 2003, and daughter Yagana who is now 15 years old and concurrently taking both High School and some college classes.
Dr. Adam has held many community and student leadership positions including Nigerian and international student association’s presidents, student government senator and student body president. Also Dr. Adam has participated in many conferences and seminars.
Dr. Adam has provided advice to several senior Nigerian government officials including governors, members of the national assembly, vice president and the president. Dr. Adam has also been called on by the President of the United States / White House for advice on African issues.
Currently, Dr. Adam is National Vice-Chairman, Southwest of the Alliance for Democracy-USA [AD-USA]; member of the AD-USA Strategy and Election Committee; and the Editorial Board Committee. Dr. Adam is the Pro-tem coordinator / chairman of the Pro-national Conferences-USA [PRONACO-USA].
Also Dr. Adam is member Rotary International, Habitat for Humanity; Association for Institutional Research, Research and Planning Group, Society of College and University Planners and many other civic and community organizations. Dr. Adam is on the Board of TIK, Inc. and International Center for Immunization, Inc.
