Abdullahi Usman


Abdullahi Usman is the Aviation Manager of Oando Plc, Nigeria's second largest major petroleum products marketing company. Prior to his current appointment, he was the Construction Development Manager, Oando Plc.
A one time Executive Assistant to the Group CEO, Oando Plc, Abdullahi also doubled as the Secretary of the CEO's Committee of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), by virtue of which he was a key participant at the various policy formulation and implementation meetings, as well all as numerous dialogue sessions with the oil workers and labour unions leading up to the deregulation of the downstream sub-sector of the nation's oil industry.

He is based in Lagos and spent 11 years in the banking industry, resigning in July 2001 as Principal Manager and Head of the Downstream Unit in the Energy Department of the United Bank for Africa's Corporate Banking Sector to join the oil industry. Abdullahi has a BSc. Microbiology degree from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria (1989) and an MBA from the Edinburgh University Management School, Scotland (1993). He hails from Kebbi State in the North Western part of Nigeria.

Abdullahi has attended over 30 courses, seminars and workshops on banking & finance, oil & gas, people management and selling skills. He has participated in programmes at the Lagos Business School, the Energy Institute (formerly, the Institute of Petroleum), London and SAP Southern Africa, Johannesburg, amongst many others.

An avid writer with specific interest on political and socioeconomic issues, Abdullahi’s articles and commentaries have appeared on numerous reputable websites and several local and international newspapers such as the Russian newspaper, Pravda; USAfrica, the Newspaper - a Houston-based publication - and Dehai News, Eritrea. Local Nigerian newspapers that have featured his articles include ThisDay, New Nigerian, Triumph, Vanguard, The Sun, Daily Trust, Business Day, The Punch, Nigerian Tribune, The Daily Independent, Leadership, and Desert Herald.
