Why Nigerians must resist religious sentiments: by Muhammad Ajah
It is a very overwhelming and welcomed development in Nigeria that religion is now playing insignificant or no role in the national political system. That a time has come when Nigerians have lost grip of being manipulated by religious bigots and political soothsayers is an indication that the country is now marching towards the right direction. Once the electoral system is corrected and the people choose their leaders by themselves, Nigeria will become what all its patriots desire for it.

Vice President: Where are our women politicians? By Muhammad Ajah
Naturally, it would have drawn more attention and sympathy if the Nigeria women and especially the politicians among them blew their trumpet and made this complaint by themselves. But the situation is so tensed-up that the womanliness in them manifests. Since the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on Wednesday 5th May, 2010, and the eventual crowning of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the President and Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces, there has been serious lobbying by politicians and non-politicians to deputize him.

THE AWUJALE OF IJEBU-LAND 50th Anniversary on the Throne: by Bankole Okuwa Ph.D
First, I should like to express my greatest joy on this special occasion of the fiftieth coronation anniversary of His Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba ll, the Awujale of Ijebu-land. Every reader of this article will agree with me that a coronation anniversary of this kind is rare or uncommon in the annals of the history of traditional monarchs everywhere. If we dig a little into the history of monarchs and their time of rule, we shall discover that a great number of them hardly spend two or three decades, which could be considered a fairly long rule.

And lo God answered Obasanjo! By Muhammad Ajah
If there is any Nigerian leader who should be sufficiently proud and elevated in physique and psyche because God has cared so much for him and has continued to answer his prayers, he is former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Events since his entry into Nigeria’s leadership while as a soldier and a politician have proved that he is sui generis. No one, including the former president himself, can accurately quantify God’s presence in his life. I must assert that by God, I mean the Almighty One who created the heavens and earth and all things therein.

Ohakim, excesses of a monstrous character : by Kenneth Uwadi
I read an article written by one Stephen Nwahiri captioned Ohakim, excesses of a monstrous character published in some news media. I must confess that I have been following the articles of this Nwahiri.I have always been an advocate of free press. This suffices that writers by their sacred roles have a duty to expose the ills of government and to commend government when necessary. However, I am strongly averse to writers using the pages of newspapers to attack personalities and make unsubstantiated claims just to score cheap political points.

Yet Jonah Jang is still sitting there as a lame duck governor : by Kenneth Uwadi
Acting President Goodluck Jonathan announced the sack of retired General Abdullahi Sarki Muktar from the position of National Security Adviser, NSA and replaced him with veteran security chief and retired senior General, Aliyu Mohammed Gusau. The new NSA is no stranger to the position having held it for most of the 8 years of the Obasanjo Presidency. Before that he has been in military intelligence and was briefly Army Chief. Sacking the National Security Adviser is a right step taken by Dr. Goodluck. .

Rotational Presidency is a Synonym for Sectionalism and Anti-Development of Nigeria : by Michael Ebewo
The excellent writer John Onyeaku in his recent article titled “CHAOS THEORY: YARADUA AND THE REST OF US” states how his Wall Street banker friend observes Nigeria political situation as one that “has the feel of hung jury.” Generally, it feels like so. This is because the FEC(Federal Executive Council) who is supposed to show more prudence in handling the current political logjam, has suddenly become cheerleaders in order to keep their jobs while the country continues to smolder and roast.

The pains of an African woman : By Muhammad Ajah
African women have suffered. May God make a day for their freedom and development. Amen. But O African women, unite and rise to make a change in your destiny! The story of the sufferings inflicted on women in Africa and how they are dealt with by their male counterparts cannot be told and completed in a day. In a summary note, African women are overworked, underdeveloped and mismanaged.

Declare a state of emergency in Plateau state now : by Kenneth Uwadi
The incessant genocides in Plateau state, which started since 1999, led to loss of thousands of lives and teeming number of refugees (widows & orphans). The major ones occurred in 2001 and 2004.We will not forget when the Olusegun Obasanjo led federal government of Nigeria declared a state of emergency in the central Plateau state after massacres between two ethnic groups were turning into a religious war. Obasanjo feared the violence there could spread across the country.

The Plateau Crucible (3) By Aliyu U. Tilde
In the concluding part of this series, I intend to discuss ethnicity as it manifested its ugly face in the recent conflict in Plateau State. I will not hesitate to say that I am not a supporter of ethnic identity as a basis for determining the rights of citizens because subscribe to the universality of mankind, believing that no one is superior to another except by conduct. Employment of ethnicity in the construction and determination of public matters has always resulted in heinous consequences.
